With the recent amendments in Canada's Express Entry Immigration system, there seems a new hope for the French-speaking candidates. In the recent announcement by Canada's immigration minister, Marco Mendicino announced that all the bilingual candidates and the French- speaking ones will receive additional [points under the Express Entry
System.


This will follow with a piece of equally appealing news where Canada is vouching for 400,000 newcomers each year for the next 3 years.

Why Are French Speakers Celebrating Express Entry Changes?

An exhaustive and transparent Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) can make a lot of difference while receiving an ITA or staying in the Express Entry Pool. French-speaking candidates will now be receiving 25 additional points for their French language skills, up from 15 bilingual candidates will now receive 50 points, compared to 30 from before.


This change will now be inclusive of an intake of 4.4 percent of French- speaking immigrants outside of Quebec, up from 2.82 % in previous years. Also, on the eve of National Francophone Immigration Week, Canadas Immigration Minister tweeted his support for welcoming more French speakers across the world to apply for Canadian immigration. Close to 60,000 French-speaking immigrants from nations like Belgium, Cameroon, Senegal and Switzerland came to Canada between 2003 and 2019.

Canada is a bilingual country with English and French as its two official languages. About 7.2 million Canadians speak French out of 37 million population. With the help of these new immigration targets, the country is aiming for improving the French minority committees outside Quebec by increasing economic growth and preserving the culture.

How To Immigrate To Canada As A French Speaker?

The Express Entry immigration system is used to extract quality skills based on criteria like age, amount of work, experience, English, or French language proficiency, level of education, spouses credentials, etc. The highest-scoring candidates will receive Invitations To Apply(ITA) for permanent residency. In case a candidate receives an ITA they can formally submit their application to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) to migrate to Canada.

However, it is important to note that Express Entry works on three programmes such as The Federal Skilled Trades Program, The Canadian
Experience Class(CEC), The Federal Skilled Worker Program, etc. Under the Federal Skilled Worker Program(FSWP), the skilled foreign
workers will have at least 1 year of work experience in NOC A, O, or B. Under the Federal Skilled Trades Program(FSTP), the skilled workers will have at least 2 years of work experience in NOC B. Along with this, a valid job offer or a certificate of qualification in your trade issued by the Canadian authority.

Last but not least, under the Canadian Experience Class, the skilled foreign workers will have at least 1 year of Canadian work experience in NOC, A, O, or B.

Segregation of jobs in which workers from the overseas are grouped in different categories based on responsibilities.
 

NOC A: Professional jobs usually associated with the degree from a university like doctors, architects, dentists.
NOC B: Management jobs like mine manager, IT managers, etc.
NOC C: Technical jobs and skilled usually belonging from a college diploma or training as an apprentice.


How To Work In Canada As A French Speaker?


French speakers along with Francophones who are willing to work in Canada temporarily or outside of Quebec can apply using the International Mobility Program(IMP) for obtaining an employer-specific work permit. You need to have a job offer from an employer in Canada and an offer of employment number. You will be asked to prove your language abilities by completing either a TEF or TCF language test.
